How One Man's Career Changed the Way You Travel

Nicholas "Nick" Bredimus helped shape the modern travel & hospitality industry's IT profile.

A major change in hospitality and airline travel was kicked off by Nicholas Bredimus, who led assisted these industries through software to create new systems that saved everyone time and money.  To say that Nicholas Bredimus changed the world is too extravagant, but he certainly changed world travel.

His career highlights include effort-saving software, aircraft safety enhancements, and even the design of upmarket homes. His lineage will tell you everything you need to know concerning his abilities and how much he has done. Drawn together from a true melting pot, the Bredimus clan traces its roots back Roman times. His mother's family were predominantly German and Scottish. A similarly wide blend dominates the paternal line of the Bredimus family; ahead of coming to America in the late nineteenth century, Nicholas Bredimus' forerunners made their homes in Luxembourg and England.

Naturally, after their arrival in America, the family upheld its immaculate work ethic and determination to rise in the world. Nicholas, who would grow up with his six siblings, was born to a father who earned a living as a mechanical design engineer and his spouse, a nurse. Nicholas went on to make his home in Texas for a number of years and also spent time in Scottsdale, AZ, Kansas City, MO and Reston, VA.

Once his schooling had been completed, Mr Bredimus engaged in a few respected posts at some of the most acclaimed and largest firms in the airline industry. Among these was included the vice presidential role for Republic Airlines, Hughes Airwest, and, of course, Trans World Airlines (TWA). But even with all these accomplishments, above all the airline industry has felt the need to thank him for his innovation in software design.

His insight into airplane maintenance software, now put to use throughout the air travel sector though initially designed for US Airways, resulted in what is probably his most famous achievement. He turned his creativity next to making and recording bookings. For both air travel and hotels he designed software to offset the majority of the work that had been involved until that point. He also coded a program tagged QuikTix, the first automatic ticketing network.

While it is undoubtedly his forte, he also frequently worked in areas not connected to software. Responsible roles with American Airlines and American Express followed, and in the biggest move of all he founded his own firm seventeen years ago.

As you read this he has departed from his airline connections and from programming, although he's still making the most of his inve
ntiveness. He's at work now advancing architecture -- mixing the requirements of comfort with up-to-date technology and bona fide environmental concern.
